wii drumming

Ran across this while doing a quick search for the Seiko Frequency watch from awhile back. Could be interesting, wonder about incorporating the nunchuck and furthermore if Nintendo has thought about developing a "drum hero" type game or something, could be dope!

wanted to share this cool music video for mark ronson's track "just" off his new album "version". i got to see him DJ at the apple store on 5th ave and was pleasantly surprised. he was rockin an eclectic mix of stuff and definitely had a unique style. he does a good job of maintaining some mainstream appeal but all the while keepin it "real".

Mason Vs Princess Superstar : Perfect (Exceeder) OUT NOW!

When I moved to this city I got really into the cheesy dance station Energy 92.7 I know you're gonna want to hate, but this song is phat! I just don't get why so many women make sexual videos for songs tailored to gay men?

Remember this coach from Little League? He was the random 35 year-old who coached the travelling team and liked to give kids rides to the games in his Iroc-Z. Half the kids though he was cool for knowing obscure stats and going to card conventions, the other half realized that someting wasn't right about a grown man with a "Wizard of Boz" poster.

the DJ

when I first moved to NYC I was expecting for people to always be interested in the DJ. but that's not always the case. for example, i met someone who was like "oh you DJ at double happiness? that's strange I was there on Saturday. the music was good but I didn't even realize there was a DJ!" (the DJ booth in that place is like tucked away in a dark corner so a lot of times people have no idea I'm even there).

I've also found that a lot of times the DJ's here may not necessarily be wack, but they also don't really add anything to the environment. They were there primarily to fit into the ambiance and atmosphere, not necessarily to be the highlight or reason why people would stick around. but I still give DJ-s more props if they can blend and mix, cuz otherwise you could literally have an ipod on shuffle mode, instead of a real person.

it begs the question: is the DJ becoming irrelevant now?

Bangers

Bangers. A poem by Daniel Finnerty.

bangers.
as a dj, i don't play bangers.
the focus group wants bangers.
i would make more money if i played bangers and spent time building with folks who make and listen to bangers.
i enjoy not playing bangers.
i have a day job so that i don't have to feel pressured into playing bangers.

planet b-boy

so last night I went to a screening of Planet B-Boy, a documentary based on the global phenomenon of b-boying that is premiering at Tribeca Film Festival this month. so they follow crews from Japan, France, Korea, the US, and document their lives up to a huge event in Germany called the Battle of the Year. it's pretty focking dope, and I'm not saying that just because my cousin was involved in producing the film. the footage is unbelievable. I've seen a lot of breakin videos, and the quality of the directing and the way they provide insight in the lives of the dancers makes the film really interesting.

spin + garage sale

here is a bizarre pic that i make a cameo in. i picked these specs up at a garage sale for 50 cents moments before this pic was taken. click on it for a zoom-in yo!

ok, now read bozak's killer post

this blog is slacking so ima step in.....

whats the deal with easter? paint some eggs, snack on candy all day, later eat a ton of food. I think it was an acient druid LSD party back in the day. dont those smashed up eggs look like a tie died shirt? happy easter everyone, avoid the brown acid.

random thoughts:

who else is feelin' a move to france right now? between not having rapping politicians and, well, more and more bad news on the political front im just getting tired and carmudgen like. I see the american flag and no longer think of dope shit like air jordans and gangster rap. I see the stars and stripes and think of american cheese, the worst of all cheeses. I like cheese and take that shit serious. So Im like hmmmmmm. the thought procees is: Karl Rove - politics - america - air jordans - gangsta rap - americas current state - kraft slices of american cheese. I think god is telling me to move to france. Brie anyone?

yo, whats up with the bulls? they are lookin pretty tight right now. I think the playoffs are going to be something fierce this year. most rounds will be like the final match in Over the top.

is that redman album any good? I heard 4 songs and felt like it was throwaway material from some never released eric sermon compilation album that was made showcase his "stable of in-house artists" . I apreciate that I didnt hear much that sounded like it could be lumped into the mims, lloyd, chris brown, young jocc catagory. but yo.

actually i think he should have bought some dilla beats. that would have been sickadelic.

contrary to what he would like you to think, I think Guiliani should NOT be voted president despite the hand he played in the shitty upbringing of his kid. Compared to running the shotty state of affairs of the home of the free, the brave, and the crappy cheese, I think raising a kid is practically as easy as growing a chia pet.

PBS is the new ESPN. The new roster of cooking shows is off the chain and puts food network to sham-ola.

Is it me or is kirk heinrich the last specimen of the hamlich-barry-west-stockton type player in the nba? we need to clone this guy quick as im getting reaaaaaaaal tired of all the jason williams wannabe's. Side note, when you look at kirk don't you get the feeling he does hardcore shit like goes on solo cattle drive spanning from texas to colorado in the offseason? he got that grit.

nowadays they saying you DONT need 8 glasses of water a day. 4 is better. what? does this make any sense? AND they say its fine to replace applejuice, pepsi, or something like coffee for your glass of water. PLUS they are saying you eat 2 glasses of water a day so you only really should drink 2 glasses of water a day. ?????. so we went from it being a big deal to make sure you drink 8 glasses of filtered water daily to making sure we drink 2 slurpees. How does this happen? who ok's that press release? Once again, this is the home of kraft slices.

I am buying a skateboard soon and couldnt be more happier about it. The fountain at westside park is drained cuz its not warm enough for them to turn it on and I cant wait to carve that shit up. So I have been researching what deck to buy (I always took this seriously) and am bummed to find out that there arnt really any cool companies anymore. not only that but the artwork SUCKS!!!!!!. Man, I really miss 92-93-94. that was the best time for graphix. people straight up jacking logos from all industries, blatantly jacking at that. damn, that sounds smooth - blatant jacking. I think thats going to be the name of my first 12" the b-side would be something like "takin' suckas out with much flava (to tha next level god)". I miss that too, dope song titles, and coincidentally the best era for this was 92-93-94. You know what else was better in that time frame? Hockey fights.

you know what else was better? wrestling. For real: i avoid wrestling. im not down anymore. its toooooo gay. gay is ok now, but i have no interest in watching gay porn. no i dont. for some reason the wrestling now seems a couple steps closer to that. back in the day it was such a spectacle, there was such novelty, that it was playfull. Now its more hardcore. there are no weird gimmicks. its just a couple sweaty ass dudes with wet hair and a mustache wearing torn leather. ehhhhhhhhh. I think thats why they take breaks from the guy on guy action with some girl on girl action on occasion. but yo, i m not into those girls one bit. who is? I dont fantasize about girls with big arms. do you do that? thats weird. big arms are weird.

whats lacking in wrestling:

animals in the ring, especially snakes
sissy managers on bullhorns
playing off of racial stereotypes (i know im a bad guy for saying this but i thought it was hilarious and it was done tastfully, case in point "Slick" the black wrestling manager/ pimp)
paint on faces
paint in hair
bizzaro tag team duos that seemed to come from another planet (LOD, the rockers)
having to pay for losing: getting your hair cut, getting a wad of cash stuffed in your mouth, a snack dropped on your head, etc.
names like " the red rooster"

thats all kiddies. il drop some more thoughts when I have some. happy easter, and enjoy your kraft slices my fellow americans.

last night's party

last night i watched USC blow an 18 pt halftime lead to UNC. fockers! then went to this crazy hipster party called Ruff Club that is every friday next door to my apt at a spot called Annex. these kids are really into this jive. the energy is so different than what I'm used to at nyc spots. people were like hugging each other, bouncing around and singing along to crap (possibly a result of heavy amts of drugs, but who cares!). i'm just so used to people trying to act so stiff, cool and fabulous, that it was refreshing. kind of reminded me of the vibe we used to have at house parties in college.

chinese blogs

Sup peoples. So my brother recently moved to China and started a blog to document his experience. Funny enough, after about a month of blogging, he can no longer view his own blog. He can post to it, but it looks like the Chinese forces that be have censored viewing of any blogspot.com sites. Kinda crazy. Anyhow, peep out his blog if you get a chance. Some funny adventures.

Who came to tha Party party?

For those of you who missed it..........

Ryan and Mari's birthday party was utterly indescribable.

Once the Spin-man started killin it with his Soul Sing-along set, the mic was never set down.

Literally, I came out at 5:30 in the morning demanding to be smoked out for putting up with an Audio barrage that sounded like it was coming from my own head.

And if his smile isn't proof enough, this lil' mother can kick it.
Hold in down at Clemson.
Keep dem grades up.

Energy Self Sufficient Island in Denmark

I saw a good story on the CBS evening news tonight. Samso Island in Denmark was challenged by the Danish government to attempt to be energy self sufficient and emissions. After the introduction of several wind farms, solar cells, and other means of green energy production, it seems as though they have succeeded. The island has added more offshore windfarms and have begun selling power back into the grid on the mainland.

survivor

So I have a friend from college who is on the current season of Survivor. Kinda weird to see a guy on national TV who used to hangout at my apt and eat chicken fingers while watching Old School. Mookie is his name. He's one of the cooler Asian cats I know. He's even got his own ringtones now. Check em out!

Redbull King of the Ring

Newer RedBull + BBoy footage

You can do a search on youtube for - redbull king of the ring - if you want to find more of the footage. This was an early round, but the most debate I have seen was over who took this battle, Machine (Rock Force, Zulu Kingz, Baysic Project) vs. Lego (Flipside Kings). Machine went on to win the whole thing. If I had to pick one bboy to represent the dance over the past couple years, it would probably be Machine, he's just nasty.

RZA Presents: Wuk Presents the Best of RZA, vol. 1, a Ryebread Mix

I made this pompously-titled mix for a friend of mine that is largely unfamiliar with the Wu. His favorite producer is Dangermouse. This is my attempt to educate him on some real shit, using strictly what I consider golden-era RZA: 1995-1997 masterpieces from Cuban Linx to Forever.

Bedroom Rockers

This is my area of inspiration right now......

Did any of you guys read about this guy Kenneth Eng?
'I Hate Blacks' Shocker"
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2007/02/27/MNGTCOBI921.DTL

I did some more research into him and read some of his ideas. While I respect his attempt to vent his frustration from prejudice he suffers as an Asian American, to let his anger and frustration manifest into his own personal stereotypes and prejudices and then PUBLISH THEM while attempting to both speak for and influence other Asian Americans pisses me off. I want to send him this picture

Ken,

truck drivers rule

so I stumbled across this new documentary that is coming out about American truckers. I know a lot of you would probably scoff at the thought of watching more than an hours worth of film based on the lives of truckers, but it actually kind of sounds interesting. we have a lot of stereotypes about truck drivers, so I'm curious to see this film.

excerpt from the big rig movie website

“BIG RIG” is a broad portrait of modern America as seen through the eyes of long-haul truck drivers. Spanning 21,000 miles, 45 states, and dozens of truck stops, director Doug Pray and producer Brad Blondheim (the team who created “SCRATCH”) went far beyond just the chrome and coffee culture and made a film that delves deeply into the lives and personal struggles of these working-class heroes, who are, literally, carrying the nation upon their backs.

Except for a handful of classic ‘70s trucking tunes, the music for the entire film was written and performed by Buck 65, an artist whose blend of country-roots music, spoken lyrics, and solid beats create a signature sound for “BIG RIG” and drive the editorial narrative to a high degree

jet who?

so i'm apparently on jetblue's email list and found this little gem in my inbox:

"Dear JetBlue Customers. We are sorry and embarrassed. But most of all, we are deeply sorry."

say what? do they have a 6 year old writing this stuff for them? looks like customer service is not the only area they need help with.

white rappers!

ok so my boy Sergio works at the record label OM and is helping establish their hip-hop division. They've signed this group Zion I and from what it looks like, not really sure, but from the video below, it looks like they got this new white guy in the group who is actually kinda dope. It's always good to hear rappers who aren't just black that have skills. I don't know. Being that I'm Chinese and growing up in a small Midwestern college town, one of the only minority cultures I could identify with was hip-hop culture. So although hip-hop culture has very afro-centric roots, it's good to see that it isn't limited to just the black community.

but then I see people like this, who give the hip-hop community every reason to be skeptical of any rapper who isn't black...this is ridiculous

and then there's of course the totally radical VH1 tv show on right now that has white rappers competing with each other. shit is kind of hysterical. And wasup with the females on this show?!! There was actually a hottie that got booted from the show, but HOW COME WHITE RAPPER FEMALES ALWAYS GOTTA BE UGLY AND FAT? I mean I'm a pretty tolerant and non-judgemental dude when it comes to the opposite sex, but this chick is just out of control....
